We enjoy nature on these dates and we are following those examples set by the wildlife we observe. The pattern is simple; birds flock, animals herd, fish school - so do we - and we learn from one another. Thus we have gathered our collective senses for our mutual benefit. We have added a degree of safety since a herd, is better than a few and a few is better than one - all alone in any situation. That makes sense! We also have now added a vast variety of experiences and skills that each of us brings to the table. Herds as a unit can watch out for each other with the less experienced individuals nested between the more experienced. Since these gatherings are at a leisurely pace absolutely no one is left behind! This is a regular occurance on a river trip and why we select Lakes. When you participate in any activity such as; flying, skydiving, boating, swimming, diving, caving, hiking, climbing there are dangers. People can and do get hurt. This can not only occur during the activity but when you are going to and from these activities. There are insects, bitting critters, weather issues such as wind and current and objects in and floating on the water. I recommend wearing shoes since fishermen and women may have left a hook or two behind. Sunscreen, insect repellent hats with brims, securing your eyewear, keys and valuables are a few things to think about. The bottom line.

Got Boat, Paddle, PFD and Transport?
- Free, if you own a boat, paddle and coast guard pdf (personal floation device) and can get the equiptment and yourself to Lake____________.
- Free, if you can borrow the equiptment from some one and ride with them to and from Lake_____________.
- Rentals costs vary considerably and there are a variety of places to chose from and they are listed with their phone numbers under Liveries. You are free to select one of them or find your own. You should do this in advance 2 or 3 weeks ahead since the demand increases during holidays and as the weather warms. Camping sites are affected in the same way!
When?
- The water temperature + the air temperature =100 (reduces the chance of hypothermia)
- I'm on a Lake somewhere in NJ twice a month which I will post and you are invited to attendees.
- The wind and getting wet can alter this formula so add a space blanket and some clothes in dry sac!
I'm a newbee
- There are free classes that teach the basics with certified instructers at Lake Oswego usually occurring four (4) times a year. It will be posted as soon as I find out when they are being offered in 2008.
- L. L. Bean has very reasonable classes and they provided everything: kayak, paddle, life jacket and transportation to and from their Lake. The instructors are all certified. Call any L. L. Bean for dates and times.

- How long, 4 hours about a half day's rental - usually people have lunch and stay longer - your freewill decides.
